Hi! My name is Tiffany Atkins and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Killeen, Tx. I graduated high school as a teen mom of two and I knew I had no choice but to pursue my college degree if I wanted to provide for my children. I moved to Nacogdoches with my two children in 2005 and I was able to graduate with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Child and Family Development from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2010. My passion was to become a counselor and help troubled youth and young adults, so I moved to Killeen to pursue a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University-Central Texas.Following graduation in 2014, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor with the school district and then the juvenile detention facility. While at the detention facility, I was presented the opportunity to work as both a counselor for two years and a probation officer for two years which ultimately shined a light on the importance of early intervention.
As a counselor
I led counseling groups dealing with topics such as bullying, self-esteem, chemical dependency, sexual abuse, trauma, guidance and career counseling, sexual offending, PTSD, criminal offending, and body image issues. In 2016, I pursued a second masters degree in Social Work at Texas State University.I have been trained at the graduate level to address the developmental needs of individuals through a comprehensive counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of people. With my education and the specialized training,I received in counseling psychology and social work enables me to enter the community ready to provide individual, family, and group counseling services and commit to helping individuals overcome adversity while becoming healthy and productive members of society.
I have a strong educational background in disorders such as depression, eating disorders, learning disabilities, trauma, and addictions, and I am familiar with the implications and potential setbacks such disorders can cause. I also conduct individual and group counseling services to sex offenders in which I guide them in developing specialized strategies for stopping abusive behavior, being accountable, and taking responsibility for the harm they have inflicted on their victims. Being the daughter of a soldier has helped me become familiar with the many different transitions within the military lifestyle. I am fully committed and determined to advocate for individuals facing such setbacks as I believe everyone, if given the proper guidance, can find a path to their own personal success.
